Loftia fishing: Collector Rod and timing guide
Learn Loftia’s Collector Rod casting and green-zone timing from the earlier fishing tutorial, plus the announced fishing spots and research features.
How does fishing work in Loftia?
The Collector Rod is the fishing tool. Qloud describes using it to collect endangered fish safely for study and repopulation. Fishing arrived with Early Access, alongside Research Stations and the expanded districts in the Early Access overview.
The announced Hanging Gardens features include fishing waters and community farms.
Kassim is a biodiversity researcher and fishing expert. His portrait is in the NPC directory.
How do you cast and collect a fish?
These steps come from an earlier Beta fishing tutorial. Follow the on-screen button prompts in your current version.
- Equip the Collector Rod and hold the cast action.
- Aim at ripples on the water, adjusting left or right before casting.
- Once the cast reaches a spot, wait for a fish to respond. A cast may receive no interest.
- When the timing game begins, activate the indicated input while the bobber is within the green area.
- Repeat through the successive rings. The tutorial describes each successful input bringing the fish closer, with later rings becoming more challenging.
On keyboard and mouse, hold the cast input and a small yellow marker extends from your character; the longer you hold, the further it reaches. Release once the marker overlaps the ripple, and expect the character to shake his head if the cast lands short (Steam discussion).
If nothing responds to a cast, you have not reached the green-zone part yet. Once the rings appear, concentrate on the timing prompt rather than continuing to cast.
Why do some ripples give better fish?
Ripple appearance is the hint. More sparkle usually means a better chance at a rare catch, and location is the second factor: the same species can appear in more than one area, with some spots producing it more often, as in this thread about fish rarity.
That is why one species can feel common while another listed as uncommon barely shows up — rarity is per spot as well as per fish.
Since launch the skew has run the other way: rare fish appearing almost constantly while common ones are hard to find, and common ripple spots often turning out to be salt or algae (Steam discussion). An official reply in that thread says the team is looking into it. Until a patch changes it, treat a run of rare catches as the current spawn behaviour rather than as your spot being special.
How do you find one specific fish?
Ask for the water body rather than the map. For the Seventyfour seabream, the spot is the large pond, and it takes a fair number of casts.
| Fish | Reported spot |
|---|---|
| Seventyfour seabream | Large pond |
| Atlantic sturgeon | Also reported at the floating village |
The Hanging Gardens is the district with the announced fishing waters, so treat a missing fish as a district problem before assuming a bug. Note that spot reports go stale as patches move spawns.
How do you stop catching algae?
Keep casting into ripples and play the timing game; algae is an unlucky result rather than a sign you aimed wrong. If the timing window feels too fast, slow it down in the settings:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accessibility & Controls, then General.
- Scroll to Minigame speed and lower it.
The fishing tips thread covers the same setting, which applies to the timing minigame — try it before writing a fish off.
What do you need to start fishing?
The Collector Rod is a Project Station level-1 recipe: Rattan 5, Jute 5 and Plastic Sheet 1. A second tier exists at Project Station level 3. Rattan and jute also feed refining recipes, so check the recipe finder before spending your last stack on a rod.
The fish bundles at the research stations ask for named species. Anadromous Odyssey, researched at Central Lake, wants Allis Shad, Atlantic Salmon, Atlantic Sturgeon and Rainbow Trout (bundle list). The unlock order shows what the bundles pay out.
What do Research Stations and proficiencies add?
Players contribute local plants and animals to community study at Research Stations. Urbex involves searching underground tunnels and abandoned buildings for Artifacts from Old Earth.
Qloud also announces proficiency progression past Level 5, including Fishing and choices of Perks.
